Choosing and downloading free e-book reading applications
When people talk about e-books and e-reading, there are three main components involved: the e-book itself, the application that reads the e-book, and the device that runs the application. For devices:
- Any computer—desktop, laptop, or tablet—can be an e-reader.
- Any smartphone—iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, PalmOS, or SymbianOS—can be an e-reader.
- Any e-reader—Kindle, Nook, Sony, Kobo—can be an e-reader.
In the chart below, choose the device you want to read on from the column at left, and then download any one of the many e-reading applications available for it, listed along the top row. All of the applications are free and many will allow you to read on multiple devices. Some will even synch your books from device to device so that you can switch from reading on your computer, to your phone, to your e-reader seamlessly.
There's perhaps no better way to get started, than to just dive in and try it. You'll quickly find a device and application combination that works best for you, and because the e-books you buy at holartbooks.com are unencrypted and come packaged with multiple file formats, you can try a new device or a new application anytime. You're never locked in.
