2008 Robert Fagles Translation Prize
Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 10:21AM First noted at Three Percent (the blog of Rochester University's Open Letter Books), but I just received a press release as well:
"The National Poetry Series is pleased to announce that Lawrence Venuti has been awarded the 2008 Robert Fagles Translation Prize. Mr. Venuti's project, Edward Hopper, is a translation of Catalan poet Ernest Farrés, and will be published in [November] 2009 by Graywolf Press."
Details are scant as yet, though Three Percent says each of the book's poems is based on a specific Edward Hopper painting. Very reminiscent of Mark Strand's fantastic book, Hopper (previously reviewed in our newsletter), I look forward to reading Farrés take on the artist and his work.
