Start a New Project
The opportunity to publish a book with Hol is open to anyone.
- Anyone who has written a book about visual art
(non-fiction or fiction), or - Anyone who has translated, or wants to translate, a book on art that has been previously published in another language, or
- Anyone who has written or even just read an older book that's no longer in print [guidelines on previously published work]
We use a unique collaborative and participatory system.
Submit your book project and we'll post it online. If you build a publishing team for it, and if your team's book proposal is accepted in a peer review process, Hol will offer you a publishing contract. Your team goes on to collaboratively edit, design and publicize the book, while Hol prints, distributes and markets it.
We are not a vanity press or a self-publishing service. There's no cost to work on a project with us. However, we don't pay advances to authors or up-front fees to team members. Everyone (including Hol) is working on your book only for a percentage of its future sales. That means that they either have to believe the book is going to sell, think it's so good it's worth publishing even if it doesn't sell, or ideally, both. Everyone shares the risk, but everyone shares the reward as well.
